SpeedShareWeb

Turn an Android phone into a local-network file server. Other devices need no app: upload files and folders by drag and drop, download and manage content, and review transfer history in a browser.

You can also find this app by searching Speed share web, Speed Share Web, or SpeedShare Web.

How it works

Start sharing in three steps

Once both devices are connected to the same trusted local network, the Android phone can be accessed directly from a browser.

1

Start the server

Open SpeedShareWeb on the Android phone and start the local server.

2

Open the local address

Enter the local address shown by the app in a browser on the other device.

3

Transfer and manage files

Browse, upload, download, move, and delete files, then stop the server when finished.

Why I built it File transfer should be simple. You should not need to install a pile of software just to send one large file. SpeedShareWeb · TokyoAlex.com
Background

Why I built this project

I have several phones, tablets, and computers at home. Whenever I needed to move files between them—especially large files—it became unnecessarily complicated.

I tried looking for other software, but many tools had too many ads, transferred files too slowly, were troublesome to download and install, or were simply inconvenient to use.

Eventually, I got so fed up that I built SpeedShareWeb myself. As long as the devices are on the same local network, files can be transferred and managed quickly from a browser without depending on a specific brand, account, or cloud service.

Case study

From a real need to a maintainable product

This is more than an interface demo: it covers requirement decisions, explicit boundaries, reliability work, and continued releases for cross-device file transfer.

01 · Problem

Cross-device transfer was cumbersome

Phones, tablets, and computers lacked a direct path that required neither an account nor a receiving app.

02 · Constraints

Bounded to trusted local networks

The product avoids cloud dependency while making HTTP, local permissions, storage capacity, and public-network exposure explicit security boundaries.

03 · Decisions

The browser is the common client

Android provides the local service while other devices use only a browser. Capacity checks and transactional replacement reduce file-operation failures.

04 · Evidence

Continuously tested and released

The project is open source with a signed APK, currently v1.5.0. Tests, lint, documentation, and release information are maintained with each update.

Use only on trusted local networks

SpeedShareWeb does not require an account or cloud storage, but its local service uses HTTP. Do not expose the server directly to the public internet, and stop it when you are finished.
